What is OCR and how does it work on receipts?
Optical Character Recognition (OCR) converts images of text into machine-readable text. When you upload a receipt photo, OCR analyzes the pixel patterns to identify characters and words. Modern OCR systems use neural networks trained on millions of text images, achieving high accuracy even on low-quality photos.
How does BillTrack understand receipt structure?
After extracting the raw text, a language model trained on receipt data interprets its structure — which text is an item name, which is a price, where the subtotal is, and what counts as tax or tip. This two-step process enables BillTrack to handle the wide variety of receipt formats.
What if an item is misread?
You can manually correct any item before finalizing the split. The item list is fully editable — change names, adjust prices, add missing items, or delete incorrectly detected entries.
